Senior Process Engineer
Senior Process Engineer We are a biotech startup founded in 2023 and incubated at the University of Milan-Bicocca. We use advanced synthetic biology and bioengineering techniques to produce commercially valuable molecules. Our R&D strategy follows the Nature Positive philosophy: our processes minimize environmental impact, enhance resource value, and promote the One Health philosophy, where technology contributes to human and planetary well-being. We combine genome editing technologies and microbial fermentation in biorefineries to transform non-edible organic residues into high-value products for cosmetics and nutraceuticals. To support the growth of this young company, we are seeking a Senior Process Engineer with experience in designing and installing chemical plants following GMP requirements for the extraction and purification of active ingredients. The candidate is expected to be highly independent in planning and implementing new plants for the scale-up of extraction processes and the purification of molecules of interest in cosmetics and nutraceuticals. The work location will be in Milan (the candidate will be in contact with the research group at the University of Milan-Bicocca, where the startup is incubated) and Cremona (the industrial partner’s production site), with the possibility of remote work (to be agreed based on project needs). The company offers: A young and dynamic environment, strongly focused on innovation and technology transfer. Responsibility and ability to influence company decisions. Direct collaboration with the company’s CEO, with the opportunity to play an active role in business relations and interactions with other industry stakeholders. Contribution to sustainability: working in a company that promotes the circular bioeconomy and reduces the environmental impact of production processes. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to progress towards a more sustainable world and work on innovative solutions that challenge traditional production models. The candidate will be responsible for: Definition and prototyping of optimal extraction processes for target molecules. Process calculations, simulations, and process flow diagrams definition. Estimation of process yields and performing cost-benefit analysis and economic sustainability assessments. Definition of the stages of process implementation on an industrial scale, with a particular focus on the required equipment and investments, in compliance with standards and regulations. Development of the business case. Collaboration with the Scientific Board for ongoing feedback and support throughout the project development phases. Collaboration with the industrial partner throughout the project development stages. Candidate Requirements: Master degree in Chemical Engineering or Industrial Chemistry. At least 3-5 years of experience in designing and building industrial chemical plants (cosmetic, nutraceutical, pharmaceutical sectors). Knowledge of modelling and simulation tools (Aspen HYSYS, MathCAD, MATLAB). Experience with GMP regulations related to the cosmetic and nutraceutical sectors (ISO 22716:2007). Proven competences in analytical and downstream processes for the purification of target molecules. Ability to manage innovative projects with autonomy. Ability to work in a multifunctional team with a collaborative approach. Self-awareness and openness to feedback, flexibility. Good level of English (B2/C1). Knowledge of waste and by-products management regulations and Engineering Certification (with the possibility of certifying industrial plants) is preferred. A 6-months contract. The salary will be commensurate with the candidate’s seniority and expertise. The selection is open to all genders (L.903/77). Back Join an excitingand evolving team. Send us your CV
